In 1988, I was the "child" in "Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child." I was a guest color guard member, so to speak. Never had anything to do with drum corps or bands or football fields or anything related! Still, I treasure that summer in '88 (and that of '90 with the Suncoast offshoot, Magic). Thank you Karl, Robert and everyone else on staff and in the corps for an amazing experience that I treasure to this day! |

Whoa! Saw Frank W and Denis L at the Glassmen tour in Europe. Absolutely great (and I am a Glassmen convert now!!)
Had a great chat with them both about 1989, Beach Bollocks, 3rd in Brass at Semis and remembering exactly how scary (and inspiring) Frank was!! |

I thought the Suncoast alumni would like to know that in 1997, the Suncoast uniforms and horns were purchased by The Volunteers Drums and Bugle Corps from Knoxville Tennessee, which competed in Division III. We had about 24 members (11 brass, 4 color guard, and 9 percussion). Our production was music from the movie Gettysburg. we placed 22nd out of 35 division III corps which competed that year (though some scorsheets have us as placing 20th). I didn't march the next year, but I know that The Volunteers fielded a corps at least through the 1998 season.
Throughout the tour season we were continually mistaken for Suncoast Sound, with good reason!! The uniform was unchanged, with the exception of a wine red cummerbund (sp.)
We took great pride in our equipment, knowing it had been worn and played by a top 5 corps. |

Me again , having a ball looking through this ..........forgot to say i marched in the guard from 83-86.
though i lived and grew up in atlanta, i drove down all winter all those years for this corps. I made a very conciouse effort to march in suncoast. it was an amazing group of talented kids and staff that creaatively stuck our necks out . |

It's been a while since I signed the guest book. I listened to Suncoast 1986 the other night, and I gotta say, it is still one of my top 5 favorite shows of all time.
We miss you Suncoast! |
